Material and Quality
This Ascot tie is crafted from a new, wintery wool flannel. Flannel is a fabric with a very slightly textured surface. This makes the fabric feel softer, warmer, and less formal than smooth wool. Especially during the cooler months, a wool flannel tie pairs more harmoniously with jackets made of tweed, flannel, or coarser virgin wool.
The tie is made of 100 percent wool. Wool is naturally warm, regulates temperature, and resists wrinkles. It drapes softly without sagging and retains its shape even after a long day. The surface has a subtle texture but remains smooth and has a deliberately matte finish. This avoids an distracting sheen and complements a understated, very high-quality look.
With a width of approximately 8 centimeters and a length of approximately 147 centimeters, this tie has classic proportions. It ties normally and forms a standard, pleasantly balanced knot—suitable for almost all collar styles, from the shark collar to the classic Kent collar.
Craftsmanship in Detail
What makes Ascot special is the interlining, often referred to as the “soul” of the tie. This interlining is located on the inside and gives the tie volume, structure, and the right texture. The particularly high-quality interlining used here ensures that the tie is very comfortable to tie, stays in place throughout the day, and quickly regains its shape in the evening. Once smoothed out with your fingers, it returns to its original form.
A center seam runs along the back, which is not visible from the outside. At Ascot, this seam is still sewn by hand using a long needle. Unlike with simple mass-produced items, the tie is not turned inside out after sewing but is sewn exactly as you hold it in your hand.
The key here is the elastic seam: it gives the tie a little bit of give. When you tie and untie the tie, the seam “works” with it instead of tearing or rippling. This elastic, hand-sewn center seam is one of the key secrets of a high-quality tie and is significantly more labor-intensive than simple machine work.
Ascot manufactures in Krefeld and is one of the last true tie houses in Germany. “Handmade in Germany” here means: careful selection of fabrics, meticulous handwork on the seams and interlining, and quality control that resembles a workshop rather than a mere factory.
Style, Color, and Pairing
The color “Moos” is a muted, natural green. It appears calmer than bright fir green and less austere than dark olive. This makes the tie very versatile: it pairs well with dark blue or gray suits, brown blazers, or in relaxed business outfits with a cardigan and shirt.
The matte finish underscores its understated character. Nothing distracts the eye with a strong sheen or large logos. This tie is ideal if you value exceptional quality but prefer no flashy lettering or loud effects.
If you’d like to add a little color variety to your wardrobe, this style is also available in Aperol orange, blue, and sand. This allows you to choose between muted and slightly more vibrant tones depending on the occasion and your outfit, without sacrificing the understated, high-quality look.
